Cardboard Beach

Our Paper Life built a cardboard beach for the Luminato Art festival in Toronto. The team designed, manufactured, and delivered the project in 4 weeks.

About This Project

The 2014 Luminato Festival featured a cardboard beach by the artists Los Carpinteros, which took over the entirety of David Pecault Square in Toronto. The beach was the main feature of the festival and featured 30 umbrellas, 30 breakwaters, and 40 daybeds. Our Paper Life was tasked with turning the artists vision into reality. In addition, we assisted in the construction of a cabin and a lifeguard house which were clad with cardboard. The water resistant items were impactful and durable as they were utilized by over 100,000+ festival attendees. The space was relaxed and calm: the artists succeed in creating a beach-like experience within the center of the city.
